SEASON RECAP-Been Away for a While
The Braves made it to the finals of the High School league as well as the TOB Championship. The boys came up short in both games but showed resolve by never quitting. They trailed Massapequa by 5 goals heading into the final period and responded with 5 unanswered goals but with :48 seconds remaining Massapequa took the lead on a snipe top shelf.
The season didn’t end there. The Braves made it to the NY State Championship for the first time in the 28 years the organization has been in existence. The boys tried to put those losses behind them and go to Buffalo with a new found life. They went 2-0-1 to become the 2nd seed. They made the semi finals where they faced Lancaster in Western New York. It was a see-saw battle but the season ended in a 6-4 lose with the final goal an empty netter.

BRAVES START CHAMPIONSHIP RUN WITH THRILLING WIN OVER BELLMORE/MERRICK
These kind of games are the reason you play a sport. The Braves played Bellmore/Merrick in the Semi-Finals of the Nassau County league playoffs last night in a very well play and exciting game. The 2-1 final score reflected the type of game this was. It was up and down the ice for two very skilled teams. B/M opened the scoring with what seemed like an impossible angle shot but somehow it found it’s way into the net to give B/M the early lead. After that Danny DeSilva shut them down the rest of the way and played another strong game in net. He had 34 saves on 35 shots on goal. There was a time during the 2nd period when he had to make 3 tremendous saves through screens that could have put the Braves in a huge hole. But once again the Braves would not quit. Sam Sternschein tied the score on a really nice tip in on a great pass by Corey Hoffman. But what happened with 5:36 remaining in the game, the score tied 1-1 was a true work of art. Jon Lazarus took possession of the puck at the Braves blue line and skated through a maze of players then faked out the goalie and slid the puck into the net for a 2-1 lead. Once the Braves took the lead late in the 3rd period the Braves wore down B/M so much so that B/M couldn’t pull their goalie until 20 seconds left in the game because the Braves fore checked relentlessly and kept B/M deep in their own end.
The Braves faced a lot of adversity being saddled with 8 penalty kills. The boys played the equivalent of one full period short handed. Still with all those penalties the Braves never broke. B/M was 0-8 on the power play. This was accomplished because of great team defense the boys play. Players block shots, took body checks to move the puck out of the defense zone.
We are sure that Long Beach will come ready to play but so will we. It should be a great series.
Come and Support the Braves as they continue their march towards a league championship. The next game is Tuesday night at 7:30pm at Bethpage Arena.

BRAVES CLINCH REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE TITLE AND GO UNDEFEATED IN TOB DIVISON
The Braves knew what had to be done tonight as they walked into the Arena to face off against Jericho on the final night of the regular season. The Braves had important unfinished business to take care of before the end of the night. They took the ice with all of this weighing on their shoulders. The first order of business was making sure that Corey Hoffman reached 100 points. The next order of business was to win the game and clinch first place in the league. By beating Jericho they clinched 1st place in the league and went undefeated in the Town of Oyster Bay League. With all of Corey’s teammates their to support him he achieved something that has never been accomplished in league hist0ry. Corey ended the season with 101 points. The team had 5 players with 20 goals or more for the Season. The team amassed 190 goals for the season. That is an average of 9.5 goals per game. This was also a first for the league. Those players were, Senior Adam Goldstein Sophomore’s Jon Lazarus Stefan Lynch and Corey Hoffman and 8th grader Sam Sternschein. Having 5 20 goal scores has not happened in the league in over 20 years. The game was never in doubt and the Braves had a lot of scores last night. Scott Rothstein, Jake Esposito, Peter Guiffre, Jake Zimmerman and Ariel DeLeon. Strong games were also played by Tommy Lynch, Nate Turell,. Brandon Nieves and Sam Gertler on Defense while the forwards made sure to continue to put pucks in the net. In net, Danny DeSilva continued to put on a display between the pipes allowing only 1 goal before being replaced by John Perschilli at the start of the 3rd period and who saw his first Varsity action all season. Dan DeSilva finished the season at 10-1-1 with a 3.33 goals against average. What an accomplishment for a player to hold the entire league to under 4 goals a game.
The Braves season continues Sunday night in a first round semi-final match up against Bellmore/Merrick. With a win against them, and they go to the finals to face the winner of the other semi final game between Long Beach and Massapequa.
Next Up For The Braves is the Semi Finals against Bellmore/Merrick.
Please come and support the Braves on their quest to winning the leagues championship.
Game Time is at 8:45 at Bethpage Arena. Look Forward to Seeing All of You There.

BRAVES SURVIVE SCARE BUT COME AWAY WITH BIG WIN
The Braves faced off against Massapequa tonight in a rematch of huge proportions. At stake was first place in the league and an automatic bid to the State Championship. The Braves seemed to be sleep skating through the first period and found themselves down 2-1 after the first period. There seemed to be some lasting effects from last nights big win vs. Bellmore/Merrick. The players seemed to be chasing all over the ice and were not able to clear their zone on many occasions . By the middle of the 2nd period, they found their legs and finished the 2nd period tied at 3. In the 3rd period, it was back and forth up and down the ice with both goalies making some quality saves. With the score tied at 4 and time running out, Massapequa needed a win to make the States and pulled their goalie. That is when Corey Hoffman would not be denied. He took a pass at his own blue line, fought off 5 players skated down the ice and and buried the puck into and empty net for the game winning goal. There were many players that should be recognized for their play tonight. The line of S. Lynch, Jake Esposito and Jake Zimmerman kept Massapequa’s big line off the score sheet. Ari DeLeon again helped on both offense and defense and added a goal. Jon Lazarus playing both forward and defense and finished the game with 2 goals and 1 assist to help the Braves stay in the game. Peter Guiffre had 2 nice body checks that led to a couple of shots on goal. On defense, there was solid play by Sam Gertler, Brandon Nieves and Tommy Lynch. Then there is Daniel DeSilva who played back to back games for the first time this season and finished with 34 saves on 38 shots.
The Braves can clinch first place in the league and a trip to the States with a win against Jericho on Friday night.
Please come and support the Braves on their march to the playoffs.
Braves vs. Jericho Friday night Feb 10 at 9:15 at Bethpage Arena.

BRAVES CAST ASIDE BELLMORE/MERRICK WITH 4-1 DRUBBING
With 3 games remaining on the Braves schedule before the match up with Bellmore/Merrick tonight, they picked a line from Al Davis which is “JUST WIN BABY”. The game was 0-0 after 1 period but there were plenty of scoring chances for both teams. The Braves opened the scoring 3:44 left in the second. However just 1:34 later M/B scored to tie the game. With the game now tied at 1 a piece the 3rd period was going to be a slug fest. The Braves scored :43 seconds into the 3rd period and extended their lead throughout the period for a well deserved 4-1 win. Great games were played by Sam Sternschein who got angry and threw body checks galore in the 3rd period. Corey Hoffman (2 assists), Jon Lazarus (1 goal), Stefan Lynch (2 goals) and Adam Goldstein (1 goal) played their usual strong game, but were bolstered by the play Ari DeLeon, Jake Zimmerman and Brandon Nieves. Everyone on the team played very unselfish and put their personal accolades aside for what was best for the team. Peter Guiffre stepped up and threw his body around with some nice checks. The player who had the biggest impact on the games outcome was Danny DeSilva who although got some help with a couple of posts, but who stood on his head and preserved the victory. He had 31 saves of which 14 of them were game changing saves.
2/3/12
BRAVES GETTING READY FOR PLAYOFFS WITH 12-2 WIN
The Braves started their march towards the playoffs last night with a win over Bethpage at Iceworks. It started off slow with the teams tied at 2 7 minutes into the game. After the Braves realized what was at stake, the picked up their play and ended the first period with a 7-2 lead. The Braves held Bethpage to a total of 9 shots on goal for the game and had 31 of their own. The Braves worked on their power play and penalty kill as well to get ready for their next opponent which is a rematch with Bellmore Merrick on Monday night. The Braves host Massapequa on Tuesday night. With wins over both the Braves would secure their first league championship and a trip to the States.
The Braves would also like to thank Dr. Durante and Coach Depalo for attending several games so far this season and supporting the team. We hope that more faculity and students will come down and root for the boys over the next week and throughout the playoffs.
Come out and support the Braves the next 2 games: Monday night at 9:00pm at Newbridge and Tuesday night at 9:15pm at Bethpage Arena.

DOWN 7-1-BRAVES SCORE 6 UNANSWERED GOALS TO EARN HUGE TIE
The Syosset Braves stepped on the ice for tonight’s game having already beat Long Beach back in December, and with the opportunity to take 2 games from the defending State Champs. Instead, the Braves started slow but with a little glimmer of hope when Sam Kurash opened the scoring 1:27 into the game. What happened next was a total breakdown all over the ice for the next period and a half. However, once they found their legs, there was no stopping the Braves. With a huge amount of will and determination the Braves fought back with 3 goals in the final 3:30 left in the game. The tying goal was scored by Jake Zimmerman. The Braves now hold all the tie breakers with Long Beach and with Massapequa up next week for the Braves, if they win that game they will also hold all the tie breakers over Massapequa.
Up Next for the Braves is Bethpage.
Come and support the Braves Friday night 2/3/12 at Bethpage Arena when they face the Bethpage Eagles at 9:30.

PORT WASHINGTON FALLS TO BRAVES ON STRONG OFFENSIVE SHOWING
The Braves returned to their winning ways in a one sided victory over Pt. Washington tonight at Bethpage Arena. The scoring started early on and continued through out the night. Tonight’s game was the first time every player had at least a point in a single game. That is a real feat. Luke Cohen was the winning goalie and made some great saves between the pipes. Tonight’s game was a good warm up for what will be a real barn burner Tuesday night against conference rival Long Beach at Bethpage Arena.
Everyone Come Out and Support The Braves.
Next Game: Tuesday night Jan 31 at 9:00pm at Bethpage Arena.

BRAVES HANDED 3-2 LOSS TO BELLMORE/MERRICK
The Braves took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Stefan Lynch who was assisted by Sam Kurash, but B/M came back late in the 1st period to tie the game. B/M scored the lone goal in the second and each team scored 1 goal in the 3rd. The Braves had their chances to score more than 2 goals, but getting stone walled by the B/M goalie the Braves also went 0-5 on the power play. Jon Lazurus scored the Braves other goal. Danny DeSilva played another strong game in net with 34 saves.
Up next for the Braves is Port Washington where the Braves need to get back in the winning column.

Something happened this week that has never happened in our organization, all 3 of the the Braves teams all won on the same weekend. Varsity beat East Williston, JV had a huge win of Manhasset and the Middle School team beat Massapequa “A” 6-5.
The Middle School game was played with a lot of back and forth action with each team scoring. The Braves held a 5-2 lead until the middle of the 3rd period when Massapequa led a comeback. They tied it at 5 but the Braves did not crumble, showed a lot heart and scored the go ahead goal with a little over 3 minutes left in the game. The Braves held on until the final buzzer for an exciting 6-5 win. The goal scorers for the game were Connor Blair with 2 goals, Matt Luneberg, Connor McNeil, John Connelly rounded out the scoring with one goal each. Brian Wolf and John Rodriguez, each contributed 2 assists and along with Curtis Torti have formed a solid defense moving forward. It took a while but the Braves defense seems to have started to come together with terrific

BRAVES PAINT THE TOWN PINK ON “PINK THE RINK” NIGHT
The Syosset Braves hosted East Williston on a night that was a huge win not for the Braves or East Williston, but for the Susan B. Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation. The game was well played in the first period and E. Williston had a 1-0 lead. In the 2nd period the Braves tied the score at 1 a piece :15 seconds into the period. JV WINS FIRST GAME OF SEASON
The Syosset JV team earned it’s first victory of the season last night against Manhasset. The 6-5 final was something each and every player, coach and parent should be proud of. It took a while to get here, but with the smell of their first victory they will be able to build on this win. The goal scores last night were led by Spencer Chamow with his first Hat Trick (3 goals), Jordan Rausch and Michael Crescimanni each added a goal. But the biggest goal of the night belonged to Peter Joyce. Peter’s hard work and determination was what led to the GAME WINNING Goal with 3 minutes to go in the game. Great Job Peter and Spencer. In goal last night was Johnny Perchsichilli doing his best Henrik Lunquist impersonation. He made 55 saves on 60 shots. He stood on his head and helped seal the victory to the team.
GREAT JOB JV!!!!

BRAVES SUFFER 1st DEFEAT
After a 10 days without a game the Braves came out flat tonight and had their first setback of the season in a 7-4 loss to Oceanside. It was a very sloppy game with many turnovers. Mistakes were plenty and 2 turnovers led to Oceanside goals. The Braves had their lowest goal output in a game this season. The game also had plenty of penalties. Jon Lazarus led the team with a goal and an assist. He played both ends of the ice. The other scorers were Sam Sternschein, Adam Goldstein and Corey Hoffman.
The Braves look to end their 1 game losing streak when the face Cold Spring Harbor Sunday night at 7pm @ Bethpage Arena.

BRAVES STAY UNBEATEN WITH 6-4 DISMANTLING OF LONG BEACH
The Braves continued their winning way last night with a solid 6-4 win over Long Beach. The game will be shown on MSG Varsity on Wednesday night @7:30 on channel 14 for Cablevision subscribers. Syosset opened the scoring with a slick pass from Sam Sternschein to Corey Hoffman (19 g) 1:35 into the game. Corey then used his opportunity on MSG Varsity to add 2 more goals and 2 assists. The other goal scores were Adam Goldstein (6 g), Sam Kurash (3 g) and 8th grader Sam Sternschein (12 g) rounded out the scoring. What most don’t realize is that the 3rd player on the line of Hoffman and Sternschein is the glue that holds that line together. He is Sophomore Jon Lazurus. Jon is integral to breaking the puck out of our own zone. He skates with a purpose. If not for Jon, who knows what the totals for Corey and Sam would be. Between Corey H, Sam S, Adam G, and Jon L they have 99 points so far this season while playing only 6 games. The first period ended 3-0 giving Long Beach a minute or two to figure out what was going on. Whatever they tried, never worked. Syosset Sophomore goalie Dan DeSilva stood up to the flurry of shots that came his way and turned them all aside until LB was able to put one past him at 6:44 of the second. Syosset then took a 5-1 lead into the 3rd period. The Braves extended the lead to 6-1 before LB scored the final 3 with the game well out of reach.
The Braves look to extend their winning streak to 7 when they face Oceanside on Friday December 16 at 9:15 at Bethpage Arena.

Defenseman Adam Goldstein added 4 assists on the night. The goaltending continues to be stellar with Luke Cohen playing another strong game in net for his 2nd win of the season.

JV COMES UP SHORT IN IT’S SEASON OPENER
The Braves had their first ever JV game played on Sunday night at Icworks. Maybe it was the late start time or just nerves because they came up short facing Manhasset. Jake Chamow scored the first ever JV Goal to open the scoring. and Sam Sternschein showed what he can do with the puck as he netted 5 goals. Adien Albano dished the puck having 3 assists while Perry Feinstein and Michael Crescimanni each had 1 assist.
